Graphic tees drawn for one run, then retired
The problem with most graphic tees is not the printing. It is that the graphic was licensed from a stock library, is on four other brands' tees this season, and was chosen by whoever was cheapest. Every graphic here is drawn for wastD, for one Edition, and is not reprinted after that run closes.
Drawn in-house, for one Edition
Maithili draws every wastD graphic. The reference points are specific — the composition discipline of Ukiyo-e woodblock printing against the warmth and ornament of Indian miniature painting — and the work goes through several passes over things most people would not consciously notice, like the weight of a single line or how much negative space sits around the figure.
That is not an efficient way to make t-shirts. It is the reason the graphics do not look like anyone else's, which is the entire point of buying one.
What 'never reprinted' actually commits us to
When an Edition sells through, the run closes. The graphic does not come back in a new colourway next season and it does not reappear on a discount rack. That is a real constraint on the business and not a marketing line — it means we forgo the easiest revenue available to a clothing label, which is reprinting something that already sold.
The trade-off you get: the piece stays specific. Your order number records which run it came from — WASTD/UTSAV26/0027 is the twenty-seventh order of that Edition — and that number does not repeat.
Printing that survives the wash
A graphic fails in one of two ways: it cracks, or it fades into the cloth. Both usually come from the same cause — a cure that was rushed so the line could move faster.
Prints here are cured properly on 240 GSM combed cotton, which also matters: a heavy, stable knit does not flex under the print the way a thin one does, and that flex is what cracks ink. Wash inside out and cold, skip the dryer, and a graphic will outlast the trend that made you buy it.
Questions
- Are these graphics original?
- Yes. Every graphic is drawn in-house by wastD's designer for one specific Edition — nothing is licensed from a stock library or bought in. It is why they do not look like other brands' tees, and it is also why they are not reprinted once a run closes.
- Will a sold-out graphic come back?
- No. When an Edition sells through it is archived, not restocked. The page stays online permanently as a record of what was made, but the graphic is not reprinted in a new colourway or a later season.
- How do I stop the print cracking?
- Wash inside out in cold water and do not tumble dry. Prints here are cured properly on a heavyweight knit, which resists the flexing that cracks ink, but heat in a dryer is what finishes any print fastest.
- What fabric are the graphic tees printed on?
- 240 GSM combed cotton, cut boxy and unisex from XS to XXL. The weight matters for a print as well as for the drape — a heavy, stable knit does not flex under the ink the way a thin 150 GSM tee does.
